One that that has never ceased to bother me is when people sit around feeling sorry for themselves, especially when you have all the power to do something about it...It only takes 1 person and that person is YOU.
In my short 25 year lifespan I've dealt with abuse as a child and teenager (sexual, physical and emotional), a rather unstable upbringing and less then ideal situations for a child to be in. I've experienced heartache, I've laughed, I've cried, been lonely, bullied through-out school and was even homeless for a short while. I receive hateful weight related messages and emails on a regular base and had lived in 3 different countries before turning 22.

All these experiences have made me the person I am today. I am strong, confident and positive. I've never ever thought of myself as a victim of anything but as a survivor. I am not perfect but I am me, and that's perfectly okay. I work hard for everything I've got and don't let myself get affected by negativity. I choose not to surround myself by people who bring me down but by those who lift me up. Every day I put on my lipstick and I am ready to take on the world. My life was never 'glamorous' until I chose to make it so. Life has many loop holes and struggles, but it is within those struggles that you often find yourself. What you end up doing with it is up to you.

But know that you deserve better....

Woke up this morning to find a pleasant surprise, I'm Inked Magazine's 'Inked girl of the day'!
Yippee!!!!!! Ofcourse this could not go without controversy/size/fat debate on their Facebook page..;)

A big thank you to the haters, the anger my modeling causes you only sparks more fire and determination in me:) I never quite understand why another person's body size is such a big deal to people anyway...

Why is the word ‘fat such a big deal? To me it’s just another word to describe something.
One that can only be negative if you allow it to be..Take back the word ‘fat’ and own it…

People tell me I’m ‘fat’ all the time and I respond with ‘yes I know’ with a smile on my face.
Don’t let a word get you down. I’m posting this because I often get messages from people who are offended when I tag some of my pictures with ‘fat’. (which to some I am and to some I’m not, that subject is not for debate right now)

But this is my way of promoting beauty through diversity and show the world that ‘fat’ is not something to be ashamed of, or something that should be hidden under layers of baggy clothing. No, when people search for things tagged with ‘fat’ they should find images with confidence, courage and class.
I am NOT ashamed of my body and neither should you.
No matter what size you are (big or small)

Oh hi there blog, it's been a while!

First of all a very happy belated New Year! I hope 2012 will bring you everything you desire!

I hope everyone is doing well, I apologise for the absence lately...I've been a busy girl...I took a little mini break after a very busy December but now that January has arrived things are slowly getting back to normal.

So what's new? I've been busy shooting with the likes of talented local photographers such as Ken Nash, Shimona Henry and Anathema Photography and bared all for a revealing shoot with White Wave Studio's (which if you are familiar with my work is something you don't see my do often;)

I'm also very exited to announce that I have joined to roster of Rabid Magazine's Rabid Girls, which is a real honour as I'm a big fan of their magazine...Keep an eye out for me in one of the upcoming issues!

So what will the new year bring for me? I am definitely planning more modeling trips over the border and there will be some very cool new collaborations this year..I could not be more thrilled for what's to come..but for now hush hush...Time will tell my sweets!

I never make new years resolutions because I don't believe in them..If something (in my mind) needs to be done I will take care of it immediately rather then make myself some broken promises...
I live my life the way I want to live it, by my own rules and with love in my heart..

A few months ago I had the pleasure to meet and work with a very talented (and lovable) photographer named Ilya Fedorov who came all the way from Russia.
You may remember I blogged about this shoot a little while ago as it was quite an adventure hiking through the woods in a corset and long lace skirt.
What I did not mention is that the photo's would be featured exclusively in Russia's 'Happy Plus' magazine.
The Russians have been most kind to me, this is my 3rd interview for a Russian publication:)

Scout Boutique's annual Fall fashion show

Last week I pleasure of modeling at Scout Boutique's annual Fall Fashion party.
Scout Boutique is by far my favorite little shop here in Vancouver, so I was very exited and honored when they asked me to model in their show. They carry cute retro and Pin Up inspires get-up's for all shapes and size which the show reflected. I'm always happy when people are open minded enough to use models with different sizes and body shapes. Variety is the spice of life!

Seattle

The other half and I took a day trip to Seattle (one of my favorite cities) for some *early* birthday celebrations and to see our buddies The Independents play at The Funhouse (by the way if you haven't heard of this band you should check them out, they are amazing)

The first thing we usually do when we hit Seattle is drive straight to Pike Place market to get a piroshky from the Piroshky Piroshky bakery. Then I head down to Nordstrom Rack to spend all my money on sunglasses and Betsey Johnson jewelry...*sigh*

We also decided to be cheesy and touristy and have dinner at The Crabpot, which was somewhat dissappointing as the service was awefull, noone smiled and everyone seemed grumpy and fed up of being there. Jerry (my husband) called the hostesses 'cranky crabs' on the way out:p

After dinner we headed to the venue for the gig and hung out with The Independents for a bit, as usual they put on a great show as well...
We drove home after the gig in the pouring rain and pitchblack darkness..It was quite cinematic, like our car should have broken down and us ending up with some serial killers. (a'la Texas Chainsaw or House of a 1000 Corpses)
But thanks to loud music keeping us awake we made it home at around 4.30 in the morning...

I had such a great time at the Langley Cruise-In last Saturday, the weather was scorching hot and so were the ladies and the cars!!
I wanna say a big thank you to Shimona of Pin Up Perfection Photography and Build Magazine for having me there aswell as the wonderful people that came by to get a signed print..I gushed so much, it was amazing meeting everyone! Kind of a really random post here but I know most of us love to share and hear about beauty products and stuff.
I've been using the new Visionnaire serum from Lancome for 2 weeks now and I LOVE it..I was sceptical at first because I normally do not use Lancome skincare products (apart from their Genefique eyecream which I love). But I've pretty much noticed a difference right away...The morning after I first applied it my skin was more luminous and radiant..A week later my skin felt smoother in texture and my overal complexion is has been much more even....Going into week too I noticed my skin feeling more firm...I'm really impressed so far.

Today I met up with some old friends from Montreal who I had not seen in over a year.It was awesome catching up...Went for drinks and a bite at Morrisey's then for a drive and stroll around the city.
Ended the evening with some Beardpapa's and watched the sunset on English Bay<3

I think I'm one of the few people who is actually pretty stoked that Summer is coming to an end and Fall is around the corner.Gone will be the sticky, sweaty days!
Fall is BY FAR my favorite season of all! (Not biased because my birthday is in October)
The colours, the smell of the air, cinnamon and pumpkins, boots, opaque tights and trench coats are among a few of my favorite things.
And not to mentioned HALLOWEEN, the most wonderful time of the year!
Not so much for the dressing up (I do that plenty) but for the awesome stuff I usually score for my apartment. Homesense had adorable bat and cobweb tea towels last year.(LOVE)

Ironically enough I haven't actually dressed up or gone out for Halloween in a couple of years...Perhaps I'll make an effort this year....:)

Not many of you know but I originally started out as a 'Horror' model around 2002/2003ish...

It had been a while since I strutted to the darkside and although my shoots over the last few years have been more pin up/glamour themed, Horror is still very close to my heart and I'll proudly confess that I'm a huge Horror movie nerd..

I contacted the amazing Danielle Anathema about my ideas for a more macabre themed shoot and she was down so I dug up my husband's Charlie McArty dummy and this is what happened:
The idea behind the shoot was a glamorous vaudeville star who is tormented by her ventriloquist dummy..

She is in constant dispair and feels trapped..Her face and chest are burnt from the blowtorch Charlie McArthy has used on her...She sits in front of her vanity every day and applies her make up while he watches and taunts her..

The amazing special fx make up was done by the photographer. Hair and beauty make up by myself..

Summer seems to be flying by so fast this year..It took forever to show up here in Vancouver and now it's almost over..I better start getting my ass in gear and take advantage of the warm weather..Though I have to admit that Fall is my favorite season. No yucky sweatyness, leaves falling from trees, pretty autumn colours, boots and trenchcoats = Love. (oh and the totally non important fact that my birthday is in the fall:p)

I'll be getting a new tattoo in a couple of weeks by Matt Houston at Gastown Tattoo so I'm pretty stoked about that. I'll spare you the description and wait til' I actually have photo's to show for it...It's a tribute to one of my favorite things. Can you guess?

A word of advice, hiking the forest and climbing rocks in a corset and long skirt is not a great idea (though ofcourse completely worth it for the sake of art!)

There, now that unpleasant little bit of complaining is over it's back to business...After all, the show must go on!!
so the weather has been great here in Vancouver and it's finally starting to look a bit like summer, which means time for sundresses and peep toe shoes, woohoo!
It also means time for more outdoor shoots:) This Friday I booked a photo shoot with a lovely photographer named Ilya Fyodorov who is coming all the way from Russia.
We will be heading out to Lighthouse park for our shoot, which is part rain forest and part beach.
Ilya was kind enough to commission Sweet Carousel Corsetry (who you should know of if you've been following this blog;) to create a custom corset for me for this shoot. Yay:D
It will be fun to mix this kind of corseted Gothic glamour look to some lush nature.

I also recently did a photo shoot with the lovely FALT Photography from Edmonton, Alberta.
This was a collaboration I was very exited about as it has been one long in the making.
FALT and I were supposed to shoot together last year but due to a massive screw up by UPS her equipment was not delivered on time and our shoot had to be cancelled..We've kept in touch ever since and were happy to re-schedule when she was back in Vancouver.
The whole shoot itself felt more like hanging out with a close friend then 'work' even though it was our first time meeting in person..She stayed for supper after the shoot I like feeding people) and we had a great evening chatting and giggling.
I just had a sneak preview of some of the shots and can't wait to share them with you guys..

Oh my! It certainly has been a little while since I've last paid attention to you my little blog..But all is well in Deluxe land....I guess it doesn't help that I'm not the greatest writer out there and often fail at saying anything witty or interesting enough to write about...

I had a twitter account a while back when it just because the 'it' place to be and thought I'd check it out...I think I stayed on there for about 2 weeks...I honestly don't feel like I'm so interesting that i need to post about every single thing that I'm doing...Which seems kind of hypocritical since that's exactly what I'm doing at the moment...hmmm...Am I contradicting myself here?
I guess what I mean is that I only like to write when I feel like I have stuff to say or when I feel like writing something...If that makes any sense at all...

So I've been keeping busy lately...I was recently at the Westcoast Tattoo convention with Pin up Perfection Photography strutting around and promoting her business...
My other photographer friend Jenny (of White Wave Studio's) was also there and I got to meet a whole bunch of other super nice new people...It was a great day!

Speaking of White Wave Studio's, the 'sailor' shots I've posted of me a little while back will be featured in the April issue of Retro Lovely Magazine. I'm SUPER stoked about this as it's one of my favorite magazines out there right now...If you've never picked up a copy you really should! (*cough* April issue)
This is a real high quality magazine with glossy, colourful pictures and beautiful models..It's more like an art book then a magazine...I'm extremely flattered they liked our pictures enough to use them...yay!

I will also be posting some new pictures soon from the last shoot I did for Sweet Carousel Corsetry with White Wave Studio's...They will be very different from anything I've shot in a while so stay tuned!

Buxom Kerosene Deluxe is enough to set fire to the toughest greasers heart. Equal parts Lily Munster and Bettie Page but with a build that puts both to shame. Get ready to meet your new dream, scream,queen!

So tell us about yourself and your background.Well, I was born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I come from a Thai, Japanese and Dutch family. I started modelling in 2001 and specialized mainly in Hammer Horror themed photo shoots but as I got older and more comfortable with myself and my sexuality I started to pursue more of the old Hollywood Glamour and Pin Up styles. I’ve been in love with Film Noir and Vaudeville ever since I can remember so this was sort of my way to pay homage to the beautiful silver screen starlet’s. At the time there were not many alternative models with fuller figures yet so it was important for me to make a statement and to inspire other woman to feel confident and sexy, at any shape or size.
After living in London, UK for 3 1/2 years (where I worked as a model, make up artist and DJ) I moved to Canada in 2008.
Besides modelling I am also a size positive activist and coach/mentor to upcoming models.

You have such a darling figure, what are your measurements?

Why thanks so much! My measurements are 40-33-42. I wear a bra size 38DDD and a dress size 14:)

You photos have both gothic and pin-up influences, which would you say you lean more towards in real life?

I have always been drawn very strongly to both the dark and macabre but also the flirty and girly and think they mix so great. A good example and great inspiration to me is Lilly Munster, she was dark and ‘spooky’ but her mannerisms and personality screamed cheesecake to me. I’ve always wanted to be Yvonne de Carlo as a child. So there’s no one or the other I lean more towards, I’m somewhere smack bang in the middle I guess. I’ve never been a ‘purist’ that would just be boring to me. I like far too many styles, genres etc to pin myself to 1 category.

What are some of your favorite vintage movies?

As a HUGE horror geek I’m very partial to the classic monster movies like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon and such. I also love Freaks, London after midnight, The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, Some like it Hot, My little Chickadee, Belle of the Nineties (love Mae West), The Raven, Theatre of Blood (not super old but you can’t go wrong with Vincent Price), Casablanca, Rock around the clock and tons more.

Any photographers in the states you’d like to work with?
There are so many amazing US photographers on my wish list it would be impossible to name them all!

Well you can currently see me on the cover of Secret Magazine (issue 35) and I recently modelled for the upcoming catalogue for Polymorphe Latex which is a real honour as I’ll be the first plus size girl to be featured in a fetish fashion catalogue. Other then that I’ll just surprise you, I have a lot planned and trust me I’m not going anywhere;)

I LOVE leopard print shoes (and a good leopard print in general) and feel that every woman should have at least 1 leopard print item (be it shoes, a scarf or a bag/purse) it's such an easy way to dress up a casual look and give it some sass...It's sexy and classy and looks great with everything! (fitted jeans and a blouse, a little black dress or a pant suit)

I love buckles and kinda like how these shoes look a bit like a straightjacket! I'd probably stay away from pairing these with a skirt since I'm only 5 ft 3 and they'd make my legs look short and chubby (which they are but a girl can cheat...) I'd opt for skinny jeans and a cropped motorcycle jacket.

For it has been a while since I've last paid attention to you...

It's been a busy last few weeks trying to balance my day job (cosmetician/make up artist) and photoshoots..I think I need a clone who can help me with my work (read house keeping)

I just finished the most amazing shoot with one of my favorite BC photographers, Jenny from White Wave Studio's, we shot a sailor themed set for Sweet Carousel Corsetry, which was tons of fun and I can't wait to share the pictures once they are done.

on another note, I got a haircut!
Gone are the long pin up locks!
I now have black and bright red Joan Jett style Rock n Roll cut with 1 side buzzed..it's super rad I promise!

You know what really bothers me? The term 'real woman' (as used to compliment a fuller figured woman)
As much as I appreciate the kindness and compliment behind the term I feel it's distasteful.
I mean, what makes a 'real' woman? I don't see how anyone who is a size 0 is any less woman them I am.
I don't even think our biological gender defines us as man or woman perse..It's our soul, our heart, our mind..Not what bra size we wear..
I was thinking about this the other day because I have friends within the transgendered* community and they are just as much (if not more) woman then I am. They were just born in the wrong body.
The beauty of woman is our diversity, we come in all different shapes and sizes and we are all beautiful.

Us bigger woman receive a lot of abuse and pressure, we have been labelled as 'unattractive' by the media for years, thus influencing people's perception of beauty. But I don't feel it gives us the right to disrespect woman who are of small built. Bear in mind, they are often criticized as well. Being called a 'twig' or told to 'eat a sandwich' is just as hurtful..Truthfully there will never be such a thing (to the media) as 'the perfect woman' as they enjoy nitpicking at others way to much because they are often insecure themselves. (plus gossip sells)

Beauty truly IS in the eye of the beholder. And every woman out there, big or small, is a Goddess is someones eyes.

(*for those confused between transgender and transvestite terms, a transgendered person is someone who was born in the wrong body and decides to live the life of the opposite sex permenantly, often transforming their body with surgical procedures and by taking hormones, therefor becoming the person they always were on the inside. A transvestite or cross dresser is someone who likes to impersonate the opposite sex but doesn't live as the opposite sex. They are fabulous beings. Transgendered people or Transvestites can be Straight, Gay, Bisexual, Pansexual, Asexual, you name it...)

I know there will be some people reading this who have different views then I do and disagree with my post, which is perfectly fine, I'd hate for everyone to agree with everything I say..

What a year it has been, full of up's and downs. I'm looking forward to see what the new year will bring..

A list of the stuff we did in 2010
-We decided to leave Montreal and move to Vancouver
-I modelled for the cover of one of my favorite magazines, Secret, it was my first cover and I was so proud!
-I modelled for the 2010 Polymorphe Latex catalogue, which was an incredible honor. Such an amazing team of people.
-We drove across the country on a huge Canada road trip. It was magical seeing the landscapes change each province.
-We gawked at the majestic mountains in the BC rockies
-I met my in-laws in 'the flesh' for the first time.
-We settled in our new condo in Vancouver
-We got into a car crash
-We almost went bankrupt only to pull ourselves out and come back stronger
-I started a new daytime Cosmetician/Make Up Artist job to pay the bills
-I started shooting with local photographers who soon became good friends (Shimona, David and Jenny)
-I realized that Vancouver is kind of overrated and boring

So that was pretty much it for me.

Let's raise our glasses to a happy and healthy 2011

Plus size friendly clothing that doesn't resemble a potato sack

Being a big girl and a fatsionista I often get emails from girls asking where I buy my clothes..Because let's, let's face it, it hard to find cute/sexy/classy plus size clothing that isn't:

A: a baggy tunic shirt
B: some unflattering moomoo dress
C: ugly pants with an elastic waist
D: all of the above...*sad face*

I find most plus size clothing stores extremely disappointing and often find they give a
you must cover everything up kinda message..Thanks but no thanks..Style is wearing something that makes YOU feel good and beautiful. Its all about attitude and confidence!

I would just like to point out that my husband (Jerry) is THE BEST EVER.
I just got home to find that he had surprise purchased the bathroom cabinetry I've wanted FOREVER, plus a bunch of pretty bathroom accessories (candles, new bathmat, soapsdish etc).

I'm so thrilled, I've wanted to finish up our bathroom forever but it for some reason always got put on hold..

It feels SO good to have somewhere to display my perfume bottles and stuff..

Day off

So the husband and I had a day off together yesterday (which we don't get often) and decided to do one of our favorite things, go to Homesense and snoop for stuff for the house..This is one of our favorite past times to do and since we recently moved into a new condo it at least gave us an excuse. I'm a total fanantic when it comes to home/interior design and I will be the first to admit to my guilty pleasure of watching HGTV design shows. I'm pretty sure I missed my calling as an interior decorater. (I went to become a make up artist instead)
Sadly enough we left empty handed this time as nothing tickled our fancy so we went home and watched back to back episodes of Sons of Anarchy (win)

Tomorrow I have an early day as I'm meeting with Jenni from Deadly Couture to put together an outfit for Sunday's photoshoot with one of my favorite girly photographers miss Shimona Henry of Pinupperfection.com
Shimona and I instantly hit it off the first time we worked together and this will be our 3rd shoot, we will be joined by Vancouver's queen of sass and Burly-q miss Burgundy Brixx and the beautiful Maily Harlow...
